Model of care

Private midwife

Why did you choose this model of care?

Highest monitoring with least interventions

What were your choices for this birth?

Support for normal vaginal birth, Unmedicalised birth process, Birth support team of my choice (no visitor restrictions), Vaginal breech birth, Vaginal twin birth, Access to medical care/surgery if nec (eg c-section)

How did your birth start?

Spontaneous labour (started naturally)

What were your outcomes?

Staff I didn't know attending me, CTG monitoring (continuous monitoring of baby's heartbeat), Instinctive pushing (ie not coached), Vaginal birth, Twin/multiple birth, Caesarean section, Special care nursery/NICU stay for baby, Breastfeeding difficulties, Ongoing health challenges for me/baby, Obstetric violence (eg denied care, forced into decisions, touched without consent, yelled at)

Details of experience

I had twins. Birth of twin 1 was amazing. They were born en caul and my partner and private midwife caught them. The hospital staff was amazing. Then there was a shift change. I was yelled at. Bullied into agreeing to a procedure I now know was contraindicated. No warning before the start of the procedure.
More yelling. Not told about baby going into distress. Bullying and I believe I was about to be cut without consent when I requested a csection. Baby was injured during the procedure and I lost 1.8L of blood. I received a T incision. I dont believe it all went to plan as I couldn’t wear clothes with wastebands and took pain killers for a year after. I was unable to visit baby in scn for 2 days ( I couldn’t even stand to get in wheel chair) and had no support. It was attempted to talk me out of making a complaint.
