Model of care

Self-managed (no registered care provider)

Why did you choose this model of care?

After my last birth and whilst in labour the midwives on duty at the hospital not believing i was in labour and making me wait off to the side in some hallway space whilst in full blown labour and when they finally decided to let me in the birth suite to check how far along i was the midwife did not ask for my consent before breaking my waters which put my baby under stress and also the past few years of the women nationally and in my local area being mistreated, having unnecessary interventions, and obstetric violence taken place, I felt called to birth the way women have from the very beginning and taking responsibility for my birth and pregnancy. I no longer felt hospitals were a safe space for women or babies.

What were your choices for this birth?

Water immersion for labour and birth, Unmedicalised birth process, Birth support team of my choice (no visitor restrictions)

How did your birth start?

Spontaneous labour (started naturally)

What were your outcomes?

Birth support team of my choice, Water immersion for birth, Instinctive pushing (ie not coached), Vaginal birth, Physiological 3rd stage (natural placenta birth without syntocinon), Planned freebirth

Details of experience

Having a wild pregnancy was by far the most stress free and empowering experiences I've ever had.
Freebirthing my baby was empowering to have taken full responsibility for my birth and baby. Being able to instinctively listen to my body and birth undisturbed at home with my children present was by far the best out of my 4 births.
We all must take responsibility for our births and trust ourselves, our bodies and our babies. We know what we are doing and we are not medical emergencies or diseases.
