Model of care

Private obstetrician

Why did you choose this model of care?

Wanted the expertise of an obstretrician

What were your choices for this birth?

Water immersion for labour and birth, Support for normal vaginal birth, Unmedicalised birth process, Access to medical care/surgery if nec (eg c-section)

How did your birth start?

Spontaneous labour (started naturally)

What were your outcomes?

Attended by my known midwife/doctor, Staff I didn't know attending me, CTG monitoring (continuous monitoring of baby's heartbeat), Induction/augmentation of labour, Epidural, Grazing/1st-2nd degree tear, Vaginal birth, Breastfeeding difficulties, Ongoing health challenges for me/baby, Obstetric violence (eg denied care, forced into decisions, touched without consent, yelled at)

Details of experience

OB gaslit me and would do procedures and interventions without informed consent. Also used coercion "your baby will die if you don't do this". Including convincing me I was doing a medically necessary induction; but the admitting midwife advised me it was listed as an elective induction ' at patient's request'. The induction failed and the OB told me I needed a caesarean and that she had booked me in for one the next day - no discussion, I was just informed that I was booked for a caesarean. She told me the baby would die if I didn't and that it was impossible for me to go into labour spontaneously. With help from one midwife (who found me very upset) I was able to leave the hospital AMA and naturally had my baby 6 days later.
I also had nurses pin me down and refuse to let me use the bathroom, so they could place an IV cannula, as my heartrate had increased after the OB said she had booked a caesarean without discussion with me, and no-one would listen that it was stress not dehydration. In the process, I urinated on myself on the hospital bed and they realised I was quite hydrated but still held me down to place an IV as it was 'drs orders'.
