Details of experience
I was lucky to find a private midwife who is based in Wyong (contact me for personal details) who I felt was genuinely “with woman” and would support my choices even if it brought about greater “risk” to her scope of practice. I was so skeptical of inviting a midwife into my pregnancy, as I was afraid she would fear monger me if something wasn’t “right” breech, small, big baby, overdue etc etc etc , but she was just genuinely happy to support whatever I wanted. I went to 42 weeks and 3 days and she was happy to let me go as long as I wanted. As long as she informed me of the medical opinion and always left tbe choice in my hands. I was adamant on having a birth at home unless I was in a genuine emergency which would be deemed by me and me alone. We live 1.5 hrs from a hospital and it was my first baby, so I wanted to have my midwife on call in case I needed her. During my birth I called her close to transition and she helped me significantly to keep going and assure me I was perfectly capable to keep going alone. It was a dream outcome and a way easier and more beautiful birth I could have imagined.
