Details of experience
My chosen location was family birth centre so unfortunately had to go to my nearest hospital.
Labour started Friday, went home and returned Monday. Was admitted as 4 cm dilated.
I used tens machine.
Midwife at the time broke my waters to move things faster which I should have declined.
I was monitored the whole time as my baby. I walked around the room and refused to lay down to birth. Hours later I was exhausted after being in active labour 4 days. A swap in midwives happened and I was offered an epidural which I accepted due to being so tired. I wasn't told the negatives of having an epidural and if I was told I would have declined. This slowed my labour as well as making it impossible to push. My baby was almost out. After an hour I was told that I would be taken to theatre for forceps. I only needed more time and we were both fine, no concerns etc. I was taken to a theatre room, my labour was halted and forceps were used. And an episiotomy was done without my consent. Placenta was removed and cord cut straight away. I specifically had a birth plan including no episiotomy and delayed cord clamping which were ignored. My birth plan also stated a blood disorder family history that needs checking after birth. My birth plan was reiterated at all appointments. A midwife forced me to stand after birth and I almost fainted. I mentioned the blood check and was told to go to the gp. A midwife on the ward refused to set up a breast pump as I mentioned mix feeding. She also refused to check for the blood disorder until jaundice was bad. Nicu was absolutely wonderful. Paediatric ward had some good and bad staff. 2 Paediatrians stated eye protection isn't needed for blue lights but it definitely is required. Lights set up wrong initially and was told I couldn't hold my child, no one suggested moving the blue lights onto us both so I could breastfeed. My complaint was mostly ignored, even claiming I had no birth plan. I wouldn't return here for maternity care. Luckily I did have a student midwife with me through my whole pregnancy which definitely helped me and the continued support via that method was a positive experience.
